This section gives you some idea of what to do for your IA and EE.
You can find the IA rubric here: IA Rubric 2324
1. Titration
Sample: Percentage of Tartatic Acid in Aged Wine Sample
In this (incomplete) sample...
The IV: the age of wine.
- Alternative 1: Use only 1 bottle of wine and open it. Then use the number of days (day 0, 1, 2,..so on) as the IV
The DV: concentration of tartaric acid
2. Biodiesel
Possible IV:
- The number of C atom in the unbranched primary alcohol (methanol to pentan-1-ol)
- The number of times the cooking oil has been used
- The type/source of cooking oil
Possible DV:
- Enthalpy combustion of the biodiesel, in comparison to the petroleum diesel.
- Yield(mass obtained)
- Biodegradability
3. Zone of inhibition (Biology only)
Possible IV: Plant extracts (you can choose to buy this or to extract an active component in the lab). This can be the type or the concentration of the extracts. The extraction method (such as time, temperature, and solvent) can also be your IV.
DV: Zone of inhibitiontested on safe strain of E. coli. Note that incubated the IB requires the use of safe strain, whilst maintianing the incubation temperature low. I would suggest to incubate at 20 degree C
